Review of the Counselling Service

In order to protect clients and staff from the Covid 19 virus the Centre ceased work on 23 March. At that time the Trustees undertook to review the situation at the end of April.

Sadly, face to face counselling remains impossible and this may continue to be the case for a long time. The circumstances appear more long term now than they were when we took the decision to close.

We possess excellent skills and resources and, unfortunately, the demand for counselling is escalating. Against this background the Trustees have investigated the potential to deliver counselling remotely. Discussions have reached the stage where we are optimistic that this can start within a few weeks. We envisage a phased implementation with current clients and experienced counsellors first.

For different reasons, not all counsellors are able to work by video or telephone and for some others it would be new. There are many details to be considered to ensure the safety of clients and counsellors. Please bear with us while we address these.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our mission to deliver accessible, affordable counselling to the community.

We are pleased that many staff members have stayed in touch to support each other during these difficult times. Continue to keep yourselves and your families safe.

Welcome to Banners Gate Counselling Centre

Our Mission Statement

Banners Gate Counselling Centre aims to serve the local community by providing an accessible and affordable counselling service in a safe, confidential environment where people are genuinely accepted and their values respected. Individuals are encouraged to value themselves and are given the time and opportunity to make choices for a more satisfying and meaningful way of life.

We are an independent professional voluntary organisation providing counselling for adults 18 years of age to over 90 in the local community.
We have an open access policy welcoming self-referrals as well as clients referred by the medical profession or by recommendation.  Our dedicated suite provides a warm welcoming safe, confidential environment and our aim is to give you the best possible experience of counselling.

The receptionist will receive you and deal with the administration aspects before you are introduced to your counsellor.

We also provide a limited number of placements opportunities to counsellors studying for a Diploma or Degree in local universities including those working towards accreditation with BACP.

The service I received was exceptional it has helped me feel better about myself & find the way to deal with the problems & challenges I face day to day. I am forever in your debt.

It has given me my life back and for the first time in 56 years I am happy. I will always remember and be glad I came – my counsellor was a very special person and helped me discover who I really am. Please don’t ever stop helping people, we need you very much.
